The Open Source UMN Mapserver extended to a XML driven multithreaded Internet Map Server
mapaccel IMS is Territorium Online's Internet Map Server. It has been developed on the basis of the OPEN SOURCE UMN MapServer of the University of Minnesota and represents a powerful multithreaded Internet Map Server. mapaccel IMS is controlled by XML and for that reason it can be used in combination with the mapaccel WebGIS framework too.
The server is able to substitute or run in parallel mode to the commercial mapservers without any additional effort.
This product represents a reliable alternative to commercial mapserver solutions due to the combination of flexibility and performance of it's mapservices.
mapaccel IMS is already in use by numerous organizations for their web-publishing applications, high-technological online editing and for integrated database applications.
An other powerful feature of mapaccel IMS is his ability to produce MultiSource mapservices wich may have contemporaneously a large number of very different data sources.
mapaccel IMS acutally supports the following data sources (at the same time too):
- OGC WMS-layers (request and response)
- OGC WFS-layers (request and response)
- PostGIS-layers (read / write)
- Oracle Spatial-layers (read / write)
- ArcSDE-layers (read / write)
- Shapefiles (read only)
- GeoImages (read only)
mapaccel IMS ist also able to expose his own mapservices compliant to the OGC specifications WMS and WFS.
That means that those mapservices may be used as datasource from common commercial and open source desktop GIS clients too (es. Esri ArcGIS, gvSIG, etc.) .
The interoperability with OGC WMS- and OGC WFS-conform mapservers guaranteed by mapaccelIMS facilitates also applicational collaborations between different organizations. Every single layer of an WMS/WFS mapservice from any server in the Web can be mixed to the layers of local mapservices and combined to a mapaccel application service. The mapaccel backoffice system treats external WMS/WFS layers and local layers in exactly the same way.
